St Jude's Church with St Nicholas Church, Swansea

September 2010

Dear Friends

August is often a time for holidays for many people, and I hope that those of you that have been on holiday recently had a good time. At the time of writing this letter the rain is pouring down and the forecast is not very promising, but there is nothing anyone can do about that! It has also been holiday time from school for young people and this has been combined for some with an agonizing wait for GCSE and A/AS Level exam results. I hope that for those for whom this was the case the results were what you had hoped for, but if not that you will put the disappointment behind you and take an optimistic view of the future all the same. There are lots of opportunities for motivated young people even in these times of economic slump and often as one door closes another one opens. For those going on to further study or training, good luck for the year ahead.
The end of September and the beginning of October marks the season of Harvest (there are no actual start and finish dates for the season, of course, but it generally falls into that time period). Harvest is a traditional time for thanksgiving, having its origins in rural and agricultural communities, but being relevant to us who live in or near city centres as well. We have much to thank God for all the year round and the Harvest Festival is a time to focus on that wherever we live.
Finally I do hope that some of you will be able to attend the Deanery Beach Party on Sunday the 5th of September. This will take place between 3.00pm and 5.00pm at the play are on Swansea Sands opposite “The Arches” hotel on Oystermouth Road. This event is our second response to the 2009 Diocesan Conference theme of “Being a Child of God” following the Deanery Bible Study held in June and is meant to be an informal all-age fun afternoon with beach games and a beachcombing walk. Please feel free to bring a picnic along if you wish.

Yours in Faith, Hope & Love

Howard
